Oliver Middle School twitter account

Twitter is one of several social media tools that will be used to communicate with students, staff and parents. The website will remain a staple for our more static content, but Oliver Middle School (OMS) will also use Twitter to connect with our learning community via dynamic content and two-way communication. Click here to bring up the OMS Twitter account.

Why are social media tools like Twitter important to our community? Consider the following benefits of our social media tools:

  • Simple, real-time access to dynamic content posted by school staff.
  • Ability to access content via common handheld devices--anywhere, anytime.
  • A picture is worth a thousand words. We use pictures to give families insight about what goes on in the school every day and the personalities of the great folks who work with our kids.
  • Great vehicle for showing off student work.
  • Another option - families can access information in a variety of ways, and if traditional tools aren’t the preference, check us out on Twitter.
  • Great way to interact with our community by sharing features of our neighborhood and city.
  • The school's positive use of social media tools and appropriate interactions with students and parents models good digital and global citizenship for our kids.

These are just some of the reasons and ways we've embraced social media tools for communication, relationship development, and positive interaction at OMS. We will continue to expand our scope as we discover new tools that might be of benefit to our community.

We have been careful to experiment with each of these tools personally before rolling out a campus account. We want to make sure we avoid embracing a tool for the sake of putting another button on the website. The tools must have a purpose and serve a benefit for our community. Technology is constantly changing, so if you see any social media tools you think might be helpful, please don't hesitate to let us know. It's always great to learn of a new way to reach out to our families.

The OMS Twitter account will be monitored for appropriate comments, but if you find something objectionable, please let us know as soon as you see it. It takes all of us working together to make sure our students learn how to be responsible digital citizens with any new technology, so your support is needed to make this a success.

While the greatest method of interaction is still face-to-face, our electronic tools help us bridge many gaps in a very busy world.
