Title I - Reading and Math Program

Title I is a federal funded, supplemental program intended for the elementary level. The goal of the program is to assist students who are having trouble in reading or math. Student referrals are usually made by the homeroom teacher and are based on classroom performance and results from standardized tests. In addition, a parent may request that a screening be administered if there is a concern regarding their child’s skill level in reading or math. Please contact your site principal to make this request.

Broken Arrow Public Schools currently has 11 sites that provide Title I services based on the percentage of students qualifying for the free and reduced lunch program. Seven sites serve as schoolwide sites, while the other four are targeted assisted sites.

Arrowhead, Aspen Creek, Lynn Wood, Rhoades, Leisure Park, Oak Crest and Vandever serve as schoolwide Title I sites. Schoolwide sites have the ability to serve any student who may need Title I services. Federal funds can be used for materials and professional development for any teacher or student in that building.

Arrow Springs Early Childhood Center, Park Lane Early Childhood Center, Liberty and the new Timber Ridge Elementary serve as targeted assisted sites. Targeted sites may only provide services for students who are most “at risk” of not meeting state academic standards. Federal funds may only be used to purchase materials for Title I teachers and students being directly served in the program.

Supporting and increasing parental involvement is another aspect of Title I programs. We encourage parental involvement at both the district and site level. The Title I programs provide multiple parent nights throughout the year to keep parents involved.
