Growth and Development presentation for 10th graders scheduled for Nov. 15

Developmentally appropriate sexual health education is provided as part of the Broken Arrow Public Schools health curriculum.

The goals of the BAPS sexual health presentation at this level are:

  • To develop a comfortable and trusting classroom atmosphere so that discussions and learning about these topics can take place.
  • To provide students with accurate information about how to be healthy and avoid human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and sexually transmitted infections (STI).
  • To encourage and enhance communication between parents and their children about these topics.

The course content at the high school level includes:

  • 10th Grade: The presentation for tenth graders contains information regarding the prevention of sexually transmitted infections and diseases, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) in accordance with Oklahoma law. The instruction is provided by the school nurse. This presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Broken Arrow Public Schools strongly believes that the teaching of sexual health education is primarily the responsibility of parents. The BAPS program is designed to assist parents with that responsibility by presenting a developmentally appropriate, straightforward, fact-based program of instruction. Curriculum is available for inspection by parents. For additional information, please contact Ms. Bowser, school nurse, at rbowser@baschools.org or 918-259-4700.

Parents may decline the opportunity for their student to participate in these presentations by notifying the school health office in writing prior to the date of the presentation.
