Oklahoma Prevention Needs Assessment being administered Dec. 11

Oklahoma House Bill 1103 requires that all public, private and charter schools across the state administer the Oklahoma Prevention Needs Assessment (OPNA) to 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grade students biennially. Broken Arrow Public Schools will administer the survey during the week of Dec. 11, 2023.

The OPNA was developed in partnership between the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and Oklahoma State University’s Center for Family Resilience and is designed to gather information needed to develop prevention and intervention programs to address such problems as alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, school dropout, delinquency, violence, and other problem behaviors in our community and schools. Information gathered will also assist in determining the effectiveness of current prevention and intervention efforts. (Review and/or download FAQ's.)

The survey is anonymous and confidential. Students will not include their names or any other identifying information. All results from the survey will be presented only in group summary form. Parents can review the survey by accessing the ODMHSAS website linked here.

Participation in the survey is voluntary and parents may decline to have their student participate using the form linked here. If declining, please respond no later than Nov. 29.

If you have any questions regarding the OPNA or your student’s participation, please contact Heath Hayes, with the ODMHSAS, at 405-315-2079 or Heath.Hayes@odmhsas.org.
